Crepuscular — Having activity concentrated around dawn and dusk. The term describes a general timing pattern; it is not a timetable that fixes the same hours or guarantees the same behavior every day.
Understanding by example
A gecko may begin exploring near its shelter as exposed surfaces cool after sunset. Record the relationship to sunrise or sunset, temperature and lighting as well as clock time so that observations from different days can be compared.
Common misconceptions
Crepuscular animals are not necessarily motionless through the entire day and deep night. Season, weather, food and individual condition can shift activity. Do not generalize one event under artificial lighting to the species’ full daily rhythm in the wild.
